In collaboration\nwith the CDC and state dental associations, dentists are implementing new\nsafety precautions at their practices. Their goal is to prevent the accidental\ninfection of patients and staff during every stage of the treatment experience.\nTo help get you ready for your next visit, take a look at some of the changes\nyou can expect to see.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Patient Screenings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you schedule your appointment, you will be asked to fill\nout a questionnaire online to determine whether or not you have any symptoms of\nCOVID-19. If you do, you may be asked to postpone your visit until a later\ndate. When you arrive for your visit, you will also have your temperature taken\nwith a no contact device as a final check for symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Scheduling Rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dental practices are seeing less patients in order to\nprovide more time for proper disinfection procedures. They are also\nimplementing new appointments that allow six members of the same family to be\nseen at the same time to prevent cross contamination. Finally, dentists are\nadding dedicated times for patients who are more susceptible to the virus,\nincluding those who are old or medically compromised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">New Standards For Team Members<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dental practice staff have all taken additional training to\nprevent the spread of germs while interacting with patients. Some of the new\nthings they are doing include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Reducing unnecessary contact by not shaking\npatients\u2019 hands or hugging them<\/li><li>Not wearing any jewelry or watches<\/li><li>Keeping hair worn in an upright position<\/li><li>Changing in and out of scrubs at the office<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Personal Protective Equipment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to standard surgical masks, dental teams are now\nusing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>N95 masks<\/li><li>Plastic face shields<\/li><li>Disposable coats<\/li><li>Shoe coverings<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enhanced Germ Fighting Measures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Practices have added new procedures and technologies to\nhandle germs before they have the chance to spread. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Ultraviolet light boxes that can sterilize phone\nscreens<\/li><li>Hospital grade hand sanitizing stations for use\nbefore and after each appointment<\/li><li>Anti-microbial rinses to clean patients&#8217; mouths<\/li><li>High speed suction to catch germ particles\nejected during procedures<\/li><li>HEPA air filters and air purifiers to remove\nviral droplets from the air<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, dental teams are spending more time cleaning their\noffices. Operatories are disinfected after each appointment and the entire\noffice goes through a deep cleaning at the end of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teledentistry Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dentists are now providing some services over the internet\nto cut down on the number of in-person visits. Known as teledentistry, this\nprocess lets your dentist inspect your mouth while you remain at home. It is\ncommonly used for postoperative checkups and initial consultations for elective\nprocedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These new policies demonstrate your dentist\u2019s continued\ncommitment to providing safe and effective oral health care.
